02 — The angle

Why a German-American footballer
belongs in front of your room.

Most performance speakers were never on the field, or never stayed long enough for the field to teach them anything. Thomas spent forty years on it — eleven divisions to the World Cup, ten years coaching national teams across four federations on three continents. He is one of a small handful of people on earth who has both played and coached at the very top.

What translates to your room isn't football. It's the fourth pillar — the mindset under the talent — taught without metaphor inflation. By a captain who keeps a notebook and means it.

  1. 01

He's lived the climb your audience is on.

11th division to World Cup captain in eight years. The audience does not get fairy tales — they get the work-rate that compounded.

  2. 02

He runs locker rooms full of high-paid talent.

Four national federations. Bundesliga benches. The dynamics of compensation, ego, and team are not new to him.

  3. 03

    He is bilingual and bicultural.

German precision, American directness, taught in your audience's language. Speaks DE & EN; international audiences are home.

  4. 04

He is not a circuit speaker.

He takes a select calendar — your audience hears a voice they have not already heard at three conferences this year.

03 — Formats

Three formats. Choose the one your audience needs.

Every engagement is shaped to your audience and outcome. These are the three foundations — most bookings sit inside one of them, or combine two.

Format 01

The Keynote.

The signature talk. The hour the room remembers.

Duration45 – 60 min · talk + Q&A
Audience100 – 5,000
SettingMain stage · conference · sales kickoff
IncludesPre-call · custom open · signed books on request

One story-driven hour: the toolmaker who became captain, the four pillars, the five keys — landed on the one outcome your audience cares about. Discovery call before, so the talk is built for your room, not pulled off a shelf.

Format 02

The Workshop.

Half-day session. Notebooks open, work in the room.

Duration3 – 4 hours · interactive
Audience15 – 60
SettingOffsite · leadership retreat · top-team program
IncludesPre-work · TD5 workbook · follow-up call

The five keys, walked through with the actual exercises. Each participant leaves with a written plan and the language to keep working it. Half-day or full-day; can scale into a multi-session program for top teams.

Format 03

The evening with families. Curated, intimate, signed off on.

Duration90 min program · plus reception
Audience30 – 150 (parents & players)
SettingClient dinner · NextGen forum · family-office salon
IncludesTalk · moderated fireside · meet-&-greet · books

04 — Signature talks

Six talks the room walks out quoting.

Each is built from the TD5 method and shaped on the call before your event. Pick the one closest to your audience; the final program lands in your inbox a week out.

  1. T · 0145 min

    The Fourth Pillar.

Why three pillars are trained every day and one is not — and what that one is worth.

Technique. Tactics. Fitness. And mentality — the one nobody has time to train. Thomas opens with the five keys he wrote down at 19 and used to climb the divisions, then takes the audience inside the locker room where the difference shows up.

  2. T · 0245 min

    From the 11th Division.

A toolmaker's career arc, told as a portable case study.

Eight years from the lowest league in German football to captaining the United States at the World Cup. The story is simple; the discipline behind it is the keynote. For audiences of high-talent professionals who suspect they're not pushing their compound interest hard enough.

    For: sales kickoffs · all-hands · founder dinners·Outcome: a reset of what "work-rate" means
  3. T · 0360 min

    Raising a Player. Raising Anyone.

For families. The car ride home is the whole game.

Built for client events with HNW families. The conversations that hold the next generation together: what to say after a loss, what never to say, how to talk to coaches, how to read trials. Thomas as both captain and father.

For: client events · NextGen programs · family offices·Outcome: a parent vocabulary that compounds
  4. T · 0445 min

    The Captain's Read.

What a national-team captain sees that the rest of the field doesn't.

For boards and senior teams. The mental model of a player who had to read fields full of moving variables and call the next two seconds — applied to the version of that problem your executives face on a Tuesday morning.

For: boards · senior leadership · partner offsites·Outcome: a shared frame for decisions under pressure
  5. T · 0560 min

    Four Federations, One Method.

A coach's notes on rebuilding cultures — Philippines, Vietnam, Guyana, Bangladesh.

Ten years of cross-cultural turnaround work: taking on teams that had not won in twenty years, and the framework that travels. For audiences of leaders inheriting an organization, entering a new market, or running global teams.

For: global leadership · org-transformation programs·Outcome: a turnaround playbook a leader can lift
  6. T · 0690 min · fireside

    The Notebook.

A moderated fireside, with the actual notebook in hand.

The most intimate format. A moderator the host trusts, the original notebook of five keys, and an audience close enough to ask anything. Designed for client salons and small board dinners that want a memorable evening, not a presentation.

05 — The room, after

What the audience walks out with.

01

A vocabulary they keep using.

Four pillars, five keys — language sticky enough that the team uses it in the meeting the next morning.

02

One mental model for pressure.

How a captain reads a moving field. Portable to any high-stakes decision your audience makes for a living.

03

A relationship the host owns.

For client events: an evening that becomes a reference point, and a follow-up Thomas does personally.

04

A signed copy, on every chair.

06 — The speaker

Thomas Dooley · the short bio organizers need.

Thomas Dooley is a two-time FIFA World Cup captain (1994, 1998), 14-year Bundesliga professional, UEFA Cup winner, U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year (1993), and 2010 inductee of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

As a coach, he has led the senior national teams of the Philippines, Guyana, and currently Bangladesh — steering the Philippines to their first AFC Asian Cup qualification, and the V.League I to its first title in twenty years in Vietnam. He is the founder of the TD5 Method and the author of The Truth About Success in Soccer No One Teaches.

He is German-American, bilingual in English and German, and opening a select calendar of speaking engagements for the first time in 2026 — for the audiences his career, and his mentorship work, has prepared him for.
